Things to keep in mind as you prepare material for your video:
Ancillae Assumpta Academy has two policies to be used in all academic endeavors. The Academic Integrity Policy, found in your research manual, outlines the rationale for respecting intellectual property and the work of others. All sources (print, video, images, sound, etc) must be cited and copyright must be observed ; any text must be summarized in your own words. The Acceptable Use Policy governs your use of the Internet and the use of computers and all electronic devices at school. Please be responsible in your use of technology.
A Works Consulted is required. Use NoodleTools for source citation format and create a folder titled STEM 2011 (even though it is now 2012). Be sure to share your folder with Mrs. Zajko. To share: click on the "share" button and enter your grade. Select from the appropriate group.
Reminder: Any music clips must also be cited.

Where to find photo images
Destiny homepage
Use any of our subscription databases, especially IMAGE QUEST. You may also include images from the general encyclopedias. Photos on any of the databases may be downloaded for educational use and most photos have citation information. Check the databases first for images.
AP Images - This database of photos is available in school from the PowerLibrary link on the Destiny home page. At home, you are able to access it from your public library's web page with your public library card number.
From the Internet
Download the largest, highest-quality pictures you can. If you download a tiny “thumbnail” of an image, there’s no way that will look good in your finished movie. You may not use copyrighted images without the creator's permission.
Sources for free, legal photos you can download and use can be found at the sites listed below, but with Image Quest and the database images, you may not need to access these sites:
Stock.xchng (to get high-resolution photos use username ancillae and password ancillae).
American Memory Collection - Each collection may have some restrictions. Select photos and images for each collection.
Public Domain Images - Free public domain images (but you still have to cite source)
Where to find video
Don’t count on being able to download video from youtube or other sites. They’re protected against download. If you really want to download free video footage, your options are limited. Also, you may not be able to download a file type that’s compatible with iMovie. But if you still want to try, here’s a couple of sites listed below. Download footage as .mp4 or .mov or .mpg if you can.
You may use (without the creator’s permission) up to 10% or up to 3 minutes (whichever is less) of copyrighted videotapes or DVDs.

You can use up to 10% of a song or musical work in a presentation. Some guidelines say you can use no more than 30 seconds from one song.
Creative Commons (CC) is a license for artists who want to make their property – music, writing, photos, etc. – available for free for certain uses like education. Try to download them with the file format .mp3.
What constitutes a "multimedia presentation"?
A multimedia presentation is one that has several different kinds of "media" (ways to get information across). A truly multimedia presentation will have sound, images, and words at the very least. Graphs, voice-overs, music, and interactive elements like polls or choices of what to see next ("click here if you want to find out about sustainable palm oil, or click here to find out more about orangutans in the wild") may also be part of your presentation.
How to prepare your presentation? iMovie is always a possibility, but there are other ways to create multimedia presentations that you might enjoy more. SlideRocket is a way to create presentations that include sound, video, and interactive elements like polls or quizzes. Google Sitesis a way to create a website that includes images, sound, video, etc. Maybe you can combine several of these possibilities for a really outstanding project!
